R&D14 Translate research and development findings into practice

Overview

This standard has broad application. It will involve the conduct of pilot studies and/or field trials following results of research activities. This will include the conduct of investigations, which may require further approval, including organisational, ethical, regulatory and financial. The researcher may be conducting investigations within their own project or as part of a research team. This standard does not include the conduct of clinical trials, which are covered elsewhere. Users of this standard will need to ensure that practice reflects up to date information and policies. Version No 1

Knowledge and Understanding

You will need to know and understand:

  1. possible risks associated with the application of research findings to pilot and field studies
  2. expected outcomes of the pilot and field studies
  3. methods and techniques for carrying out pilot and field studies
  4. relevant ethical codes and regulatory requirements associated with pilot and field studies
  5. sources of expert advice
  6. your role and responsibilities within the testing process
  7. levels of authority and decision making within the testing process
  8. methods of cost-benefit analysis
  9. relevance of research governance framework

Performance Criteria

You must be able to do the following:

  1. realign research findings to create a plan
  2. complete pilot and field studies in line with the plan
  3. identify and report potential risks associated with the conduct of pilot and field studies
  4. maintain records of all pilot and field studies in accordance with the plan
  5. present documentation and provide verbal feedback as required by the plan
  6. document and report any unexpected outcomes or incidents
  7. report any delays or problems experienced to authorised personnel with relevant degree of urgency
  8. report on cost-benefit analysis of implementation
